uttar pradesh, north india, lucknow, varanasiThe state of Uttar Pradesh composes most of the heavily populated, unreached Gangetic Plain region of North India. Of this part of the world missiologist Patrick Johnstone, author of Operation World, said, "The Gangetic Plain of north India is the touchstone of our success or failure in completing the task of world evangelization." This is on account of the massive population - 174 million - which is still largely unreached and without Christ.

Uttar Pradesh (UP) is the birthplace of Hinduism, Buddhism and Jainism. It is also the site of the largest gathering of humanity in the history of the world - the Maha Kumbh Mela which in 2001 drew an estimated 60 million Hindus to dip in the Ganges River. Politically, UP is also very influential; of the 14 times a person has held the office of Prime Minister of India, 10 times it was someone born in UP. India's war for independence from England also began here.

Some say that when UP comes to Christ, India will become a Christian nation. We feel they are correct.

"House churches" often have too many people to fit inside the tiny mud huts. In that case believers meet under thatched shelters such as this one, or in any open area they can find where they won't get persecuted...which can be challenging!

When you adopt one of the 71 Districts of this strategic state, you are enabling the Gospel to go forth systematically and powerfully. The Gospel workers you will be sponsoring are not missionaries, but natives of the local district itself. They bring Christ into the culture as insiders, speaking the native dialect and relating to the people as former Hindus and Muslims who have now come to know the Lord Jesus Christ. Miracles are common. Wherever someone is healed or received deliverance from a demon, at least several families decide to follow Jesus. Church buildings are rare; the believers simply meet in homes.

Here are some of the projects you can sponsor when you adopt a District:

Sponsor four church planters - these native Gospel workers plant several churches a year and lead hundreds to Christ.

Provide funding to start informal education centers so the most destitute children can learn to read and write while also coming to know Jesus.

Enable small rural evangelistic events, resulting in hundreds more saved and new churches planted.

Provide vocational training to a few young self-supported pastors who are living in poverty due to lack of a skill.

Sponsors are encouraged to visit in person if they wish. They also receive quarterly updates on their specific project, along with our regular monthly E-newsletter and bimonthly printed newsletter.
