EDUCATION CENTERS IN THE REMOTE VILLAGESAbout 40% of India’s population of 1.2 billion people are children. Here in the far Northern area there is very little outreach to rural village children. Many villages have no school, and those schools which exist are very inferior. That means a mind-boggling 70 million children have no way of getting an education. They are doomed to a life of misery and poverty without having even the ability to read or write. Also, most have no opportunity to hear the Gospel.
In 2005 we started Children's meetings in our village house churches. Most of these were more like Sunday Schools, with the children simply hearing a Bible story. As of 2007 there were about 60 of these groups functioning. Then in 2008 we received excellent training in children's ministry from International Children's Director of COGOP, Kathy Creasy (pictured). New groups formed and old ones grew. In November of 2008 we received some funding for expanding the children's outreaches. As of Dec. 2008 through the hard work of David our coordinator of this region, there are now an additional 83 groups with the target being 100 groups. These are informal education centers where the children learn to read and write, and also they learn about Jesus. Our goal for 2008 is that 4,000 children will make a commitment to Christ and that all will be on their way to a future of literacy which will enable them to earn a better income as adults. PRAY that the Lord will enable us to bring hope and a bright future to many thousands of children who otherwise would grow up illiterate and without Christ. Help a child learn to read and write and also to hear about Jesus! |
