Something powerful happens when 40 pastors and leaders from the 2020 Network sit together in a circle.
We recently held a small training event in Barabanki District. More than 40 house-church leaders and church planters traveled by bus, motorcycle, bicycle, and on foot to receive two days of teaching, impartation, and encouragement.
Barabanki is a rural district in the north India state of Uttar Pradesh. With a population of 3.2 million and a land area bigger than the state of Delaware, Barananki’s vast rural landscape contains several thousand towns and villages. Most are without a church.
But that situation is changing. Over the past 5-7 years there has been a steady increase in the number of believers in north India.
At our training session this week I looked around the room and realized more than 90% of these leaders are first-generation Christian believers, all from a Hindu background. Most have been following Jesus only a few years.
TellAsia exists to equip and encourage front-line believers like these. Most of them live on $1-2 per day, eating a simple rice-based diet and traveling by bicycle or on foot. Their knowledge of the Bible is limited. Yet these believers are helping lead a gospel movement in one of the least-reached placed on earth.
We held our training session in a one-room concrete church building. A map of Barabanki district hangs on the wall, covered with hand-drawn dots and crosses showing the places where these workers have started village or house-based churches. We all gathered around the map and prayed fervently for the spread of the gospel in this land.
At our session this week each believer received a MegaVoice Bible broadcaster. These nifty solar/rechargeable devices are the size of a pocket calculator and play an audio recording of the complete Hindi Bible plus a series of Bible lessons. The device can be propped up on a table allowing an entire house church to listen. Our leaders excitedly opened their packages to experiment. Imagine hearing 40 transistor radios play at the same time!
The total cost of a two-day training event like this (not including the MegaVoice broadcasters) is approximately $300. TellAsia offers these valuable sessions all across Uttar Pradesh as often as our funding allows.
